The Usefulness of a 3D Printer for Building RC Planes

In this article, I’m going to explain how I use my 3D printer to build RC planes. My cousin gave me a 3D printer. The latter helps me build objects (that are) useful for everyday life and especially for the construction of RC planes. When I built my first RC plane, I used wood to build the power pod. It’s important to mention that it’s difficult to find the right wooden board to build this power pod. Indeed, you have to cut out the board, drill holes in it, and so on. With the 3D printer, I just have to design the object and print it.

The motor is placed in the power pod. To build the latter, I designed the object on my computer. To do so, I used a very simple software, called 123Design.
You can see below the object that I designed using this software:

As you can see, in the center of the object, I designed five holes. The larger hole in the middle is where I would place the motor. The other four holes would enable me to screw the motor to the board.

The two upper holes – one on the right-hand side and the other on the left-hand side – help me attach the board to the power pod using two pieces of barbecue stick.
After designing my object, I exported this file in STL format, which is the format used to print a 3D object. You can see below the screenshot of this object in my printer plate as shown on my computer screen:

Finally, I print the object using my 3D printer. You can see the various videos and photos I took during the printing process:
