Since my childhood, I have always wanted to build my own planes. In fact, I often watch videos of remote-controlled planes on Youtube, such as videos of RC scaled planes by Ramy RC. It inspires me to build my own RC planes.
The first important thing to do before building an RC aircraft is to draw the plans of the aircraft. I found some plans of Cessna airplanes on the internet. I rescaled the plans to obtain a plane that could fly (neither too big nor too small).
To build a plane, there are two steps. First, you have to design the plane and build the body of the plane (fuselage, wings, elevators, landing gears…) and, finally, you have to set the electronic components (fit the motor, the energy speed controller, the servos…).
One of the issues is to find the materials to build a plan, in particular the body.
I discovered that you can use foam board to build RC airplanes. Indeed, it’s a very lightweight material.
You can buy foam boards on the internet, but also in certain stores. For example, in France, you can purchase foam boards at Leroy Merlin.
After buying foam boards, I glued my plans on it and cut out the various parts, such as the fuselage and the wings.
Finally, I assembled the different parts by gluing them together with a hot gun.
The second step is to find the components, such as the motor, to fly the aircraft and also the components that will allow you to connect the various parts of the plane (rudder, aileron, elevator…), such as the servos.
I found two amazing websites that sell model aircraft making materials: Bangood and Hobby King. I also bought some tools on Amazon.
Here are the main electronic components that I used to build this plane:
– Brushless motor
– Servo motors
– Fly sky remot control and receiver
– Electronic speed controller
– Lipo battery
The brushless motor is the motor used to build RC planes. I connected the Electronic Speed Controller, also known as ESC, to the motor. The ESC allows you to change the speed of the motor thanks to the remote control. After connecting the motor to the ESC, you need to connect the ESC to the receiver of the transmitter and check if the motor works. It’s important to mention that you need to connect the battery to the ESC before checking if the motor works. Finally, you have to connect the servos to the receiver of the remote control and also check if they work.
